Are there certain plans that would work better for the beholder than for the lich or vice versa? Thanks in advance for the answers.A place to discuss the latest version of Dungeons & Dragons, the fifth edition, known during the playtest as D&D Next. Beholders are supposed to be incredibly paranoid schemers and liches are super-intelligent undying beings. I come here with the question of how exactly a lich and a beholder would go up against each other in a large-scale conflict, knowing that both have similar end goals. Both the lich and the beholder are incredibly egotistical and want to among other things achieve uncontested tyranny over the realm in which the players and the human(oid) kingdoms currently preside. The lich is already known to them, although only by name and they have never directly confronted him other than knowing they have an artifact he is after, and the beholder is entirely unknown to them at this time. Just finishing up an arc in a campaign I am running and the players will likely be entering a situation where they are caught in the crossfire of a large-scale conflict between a lich and a powerful beholder.
