![]() Only an exceptional browser equipped with outstanding features could live up to it. A unique browser: What are the Brave’s best features? “Fixing the web” is a pretty bold statement to make. All while providing a safe, fast and private web browsing experience. One that rewards people for the attention they pay to ads instead of making money out of it. A browser that not only doesn’t sell its users’ information but also protects them against those who do. That is the mission under which Brave came out back in 2019. Give the power back to the users, fix the web. Bearing that in mind, they set themselves to change the game. And what is worse, they don’t see a penny of the revenue these companies make at their expense. They are constantly bombarded by ads as well. Social networks and browsers sell their data and personal information to the highest bidder. Power to the people: An introduction to Brave Brendan Eich (who, by the way, is also a co-founder of Mozilla Firefox and the creator of JavaScript) and Brian Bondy saw a recurring problem with the internet: Regular people are hostages of the big guys. They are disrupting the online advertising industry, remunerating users for their attention with a cryptocurrency called Basic Attention Token (BAT). Brave is a project that aims to make the web more private and safe but also more democratic. Each ad request is anonymous, and exposes only a small subset of the user’s preferences and intent signals to prevent “fingerprinting” the user by a possibly unique set of tags. When was the last time your internet browser paid you for watching ads? Let me guess: never. We provide signals to the browser to help it make good decisions about what preferences and intent signals to expose to maximize user, publisher and advertiser value. We’ve left it visible for the sake of transparency: Updated - The paragraph below describes functionality that was never shipped and was never live to users. We do not run a MitM proxy or VPN service. Our server side has no access to this data in the clear, nor does it have decryption keys. Our auditable open source browser code protects this intent data on the client device. Only the browser, after HTTPS terminates and secure pages are decrypted, has all of your private data needed to analyze user intent. It knows what sites you visit, how much time you spend on them, what you look at, what is visible “above the fold” and not occluded by opaque layers, what searches you make, what groups of tabs you open while researching major purchases, etc. ![]() Funds that were contributed from user-funded wallets will be held indefinitely, until the publisher verifies and transfers them to their own wallet.Īs mentioned above, the browser knows almost everything you do.Funds that were contributed from a token grant provided by Brave will be returned to Brave’s User Growth Pool if the funds remain unclaimed for a year.Brave servers will continue to hold previously-contributed BAT on behalf of those unverified publishers, in the following manner: ![]() Brave would then hold contributed funds for those publishers in escrow until they’d verified. Until version 0.58.21, released on January 11, 2019, browsers with Brave Rewards enabled would contribute BAT to content creators whether or not they were registered with Brave Creators. ![]() (No balance was deducted until the contribution was actually processed.) A user could always cancel a pending contribution before 90 days had elapsed. If within the 90 day period the browser detected that a pending contribution could be made to the creator, then the pending contribution would be processed. Previously, even when a website or channel could not receive a contribution from a user, the Brave browser would set up a “pending contribution”, which would retry automatically for 90 days. The Brave Rewards interface will indicate whether a contribution to a website or channel is possible. ![]() This can happen because there is no available contribution method between you and the Verified Creator (for example, the Verified Creator might not be set up to receive contributions from the custodial account provider you use). Sometimes, even though a website or channel is a Verified Creator, they may be unable to receive contributions from you. Verified Creators are sites or channels that have registered with Brave Creators. You can only send contributions to “Verified Creators”. ![]()
